Why growing businesses use a legal retainer

Ad-hoc advice works until volume rises. A retainer gives predictable access — and keeps small issues from becoming expensive ones.

Business documents and planning materials on a desk

Early-stage companies often instruct lawyers deal by deal. That is fine until contracts, employment questions, and shareholder issues start arriving in the same week.

A monthly retainer scopes a band of advisory access — contract reviews, quick commercial questions, and governance support — so the firm already understands your business when something urgent appears.

Retainers are not a blank cheque. We agree what sits inside the monthly scope, what is billed separately (for example litigation or a major transaction), and how you reach us.

If you are weighing a retainer, bring a sense of your monthly legal volume. We will propose something proportionate — not oversized.
